Chroussaki, Maria (1899 Smyrna - 1972 Athens)
She was born in Smyrna in 1899. She was a student of painter Pavlos Mathiopoulos. She graduated from the School of Volunteer Nurses of the Hellenic Red Cross (1926), where she served for many years. The missions and tours she served took her all around Greece. Photography was her way of combining artistic expression with historic testimony. She was one of the first members of the Hellenic Photographic Society. In 1971, she donated her archive to the Greek National Gallery, which then published an album showcasing a compilation of her works (2000).
