In 1923 Konstantinos Maleas travelled to the Orient for the second time, bringing back with him many works, mostly landscapes of Egypt, which are characterized by a rougher, sketchier script. These recordings of his are studies painted from nature, usually with pencil on paper, but sometimes also sketched in oil, which were to be concluded into complete works upon his return to Athens. The painter conveys into his paintings his impressions of the images he sees, often repeating the same landscape in two or more versions, capturing not only the changes he observes at different times during the day but also his emotions.
