Plaka
Work Artirst Modal
Plaka, one of the early works by Triantafyllidis, which was completed shortly after the painter's return from Paris, is a variation on a popular theme among painters of his time. The rock and monument of the Athens Acropolis is the object of observation and study in paintings by Konstantinos Maleas, Lykourgos Kogevinas and Michalis Oikonomou. Triantafyllidis, however, focuses his glance on the neighborhood sprawling on the foothill of the rock, while the monument is outlining the horizon.
Space is organized in horizontal zones, permeated by the vertical presence of trees, constructed by geometrical surfaces of warm and cool color tones. The discourse between these color stains, dense and stark, reveals a remarkable color variety as the painter enriches his colors reworking the painting repeatedly, adding successive layers of paint, thus rendering the textures, the subtle differences, while also digging under the surface, generating rhythms.
