A student of Georgios Iakovidis at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1900-1907), he then went on to study at the Academy of Munich under Ludwig von Löfftz, and in Paris, at the studio of Désiré-Lucas. He returned to Greece in 1913. He exhibited his work with the group “Omada Techni” (1919, 1930, 1931, 1933).
His themes comprise mostly scenes of everyday life, still lifes, portraits and landscapes, which are distinguished for their deep esotericism and melancholic atmosphere, while he also turned to religious themes during the later years of his artistic creation. One of the leading painters of the first half of the 20th century, he employed both impressionist and expressionist elements in his work.
