Poised between surrealism and naïve art, Alamanos places his Clown within an imaginary landscape, which, however, is inspired by the morphology of Corfu. Following in this particular work the stylistic principles of French naïve painter Henri "Le Douanier" (the customs officer) Rousseau, Alamanos renders space in a symbolic and mocking manner, huddling together the Greek tradition with the flag and the rustic clothes of the scarecrow, on one hand, and the modern world with the road signs, on the other.
