This is a compound of buildings with arcades housing shops, cafés and restaurants at the ground level while its floors house residences and offices. Its construction began in 1807, during a time when the island was under the sovereignty of the French Empire. Its name can be traced back to the Venetian-dialect word ‘liston’, which means promenade. Similar landmarks can be found in most towns around the region of Veneto. Seated at this spot, one can observe the processions of St Spyridon or enjoy a concert by one of Corfu’s philharmonic orchestras during various events or cricket competitions – a remnant of the British rule on the island.
