Lakones is a small picturesque village, above the town of Paleokastritsa. Old stone houses from the 18th and 19th century line both sides of the narrow main street that passes through the village, creating a charming traditional backdrop. Lakones is built on a lush hillside and offers a spectacular view of the coves of Paleokastritsa. Legend has it that Lakones got its name from the first inhabitants of the village, the Michalas family, who migrated there from Oitylo in Mani. Besides, the surname Michalas is very common among most of the inhabitants of the village.
