Achilleas Apergis started off with representational imaging centered on the human form, in full body or bust. From 1950 onwards, he turned to more abstract anthropomorphic shapes, until he ended up in aniconic expression. His discourse on aniconic expression later led him to repudiate conventional sculpting imaging and adopt a conceptual approach to issues, which was expressed through environments-installations, the upshot of his existential anguish. His environments with "Stairs," which he first presented in 1978, originally in wood and then in brass, as well as individual compositions featuring stairs in various sizes, constitute the continuation of his search in the field of the environment and installation, but are also combined with his reversion to using elements of representational imaging, signifying ascendance and toil and indicating the outlet of knowledge.
