Benitses is one of the famous tourist resorts of Corfu. It is situated near the center of the island, by the sea, on the road between Corfu and Lefkimi. Ruins of roman baths with mosaic floors have been unearthed in Benitses, which proves the long history of the settlement. The first written accounts for Benitses date as far back as 1469. The main activities of residents in the past were fishing and the cultivation of citrus and olive trees. Today the majority of the population is engaged in the tourism industry.
