On the pier which forms the southern boundary of the gulf of Garitsa, there was a windmill (anemomylos) dating back to the years of the Venetian rule – as can be inferred from copper etchings of the era – from which the wider region got its name. The ruins of that Windmill still survived up to the end of the 19th century. In 1998, the Corfu Harbor Fund decided to build an almost identical building, which now houses the Cultural Club of the area.
