Hatzis, Vassilios (1870 Kastoria - 1915 Athens) Having spent his childhood in Patra, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1886-1893) under professors Nikiforos Lytras and Konstantinos Volanakis. His exhibition activity began in 1899, with his participation in the Athens expo, and continued with presentations of his works in group exhibitions in Athens (City Hall, 1902; Zappeion, 1907, 1909, 1910; Journalists’ Union, 1912) and Alexandria (1903, 1906). During the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, he was embedded, on the orders of the government, on warships, where he painted scenes from the action of the Greek fleet. The solo exhibition organized by the Union of Artists at Zappeion, which opened shortly after the painter's death, featured more than two hundred and sixty of his works. Mostly known for his seascapes, he also painted landscapes and scenes from the life of farmers and fishermen, at times emerging as an adherent of academism and, at other times, of pleinairism.
